Where does the community access UIW technology? Cardinal Apps is the epicenter of tech products at UIW for accessing Canvas, Outlook email, and much more. What education tech is available? Whether you’re recording videos, conducting research, or collaborating, our technologies support a wide range of teaching and learning needs. OTLT maintains alphabetical indexes of instructional technologies available to the UIW community. While you open most tools through Cardinal Apps, these indexes provide an overview of each tool’s purpose, a helpful video introduction, and links to additional learning resources. Explore Available Software for Faculty for teaching solutions or Available Software for Students to guide course planning and expectations. Who handles tech support at UIW? At least 5 areas offer tech services at UIW: Innovation and Technology: IT includes the tech support help desk, Cardinal Apps, password management, software installations, Internet service, phones, printing, enterprise applications, the web team, institutional data, and more. OTLT: Our office, within the Academic Affairs division, supports excellence in education with course design, faculty professional development, audiovisual services, instructional tech training, education software, and Canvas administration. UIW Libraries: Whether searching for books, articles, or library guides, our librarians offer research expertise, loaner devices, computer labs, study spaces, and more. ACCESS Textbook Program: Most Broadway programs participate in a digital and printed textbook program for academic courses. However, health professions faculty are encouraged to discuss textbooks options with their program leadership. School Specific Tech: Divisions select unique software and web apps for various positions; connect with your school or department leadership for details on availability and support. What professional development is offered for faculty? The Center for Teaching and Learning creates exciting learning opportunities each term. Browse the Event Calendar, accept the Outlook emails you'll receive throughout the year, or explore past session recordings. Additional training sessions may be arranged within your department - all invites and email notifications are sent to your UIW email address. Note that forwarding your UIW email to another email address is blocked by IT policy. How can faculty get training for classroom AV equipment? To familiarize yourself with classroom audio visual equipment, email mediacenter@uiwtx.edu or contact the Help Desk to request a time for a demonstration. What video conferencing solution does UIW use? UIW offers Microsoft Teams for video conferencing and online class. Introduction to Microsoft Teams is the best guide to get started and many more MS Teams guides are available to answer common questions. All Microsoft products, including Outlook for email, OneDrive for cloud storage, and many more products under this license, are accessed through Cardinal Apps. Contact the UIW Help Desk for assistance installing desktop versions. How do faculty learn about Canvas? Besides scheduling time with your OTLT instructional designer, check the Help button in Canvas and remember UIW offers many self-service learning resources: Everyone is encouraged to visit the IT Service Portal to browse help articles. There you'll find solution guides covering hundreds of topics, from Cardinal Apps to Microsoft Teams and everything in between. Among the articles in this database, the Available Software and Canvas folders are managed by the Instructional Technology team. Our OTLT Video Libraries houses hundreds of training videos, covering Accessibility, AV, Canvas, CTL, and Software. Follow a demonstration on how to Build a Basic UIW Canvas Course. What tasks do faculty complete in Canvas each term? Reference our Canvas Checklist to simplify the process of managing your Canvas courses. How do students learn about Canvas? Student orientation introduces learners to the vast tech resources available to them, specifically the Help Desk for all their tech support needs. Further, most incoming students have access to Learning with Canvas at UIW. Watch a 10-minute overview explaining the topics covered in this Canvas course and encourage your students to take advantage of the opportunity: The OTLT also provides extensive support resources within Canvas. Everyone can access help through the Help button in the Global Navigation menu and within individual courses on template pages such as Need Help or Tech Support, Accessibility and Privacy Statements, and Lockdown Browser for Canvas Quizzes. Faculty are advised to edit their course content to include specific instructions for any tools they use, ensuring students have access to the guidance they need.

Tech for Classroom Engagement
In today’s educational landscape, technology plays a pivotal role in transforming higher education classrooms. Instructional technology enhances student engagement and fosters collaboration for improved learning experiences. This article presents available tools for incorporating backchannels, whiteboards, audience response polling, visual boards, and quizzing during synchronous classroom sessions. Canvas Chat MS Whiteboard Poll Everywhere Padlet MS Forms Student Experience Ask questions or share thoughts freely during a presentation. Access to your whiteboard creations, collaboratively markup visual content, or create video demonstrations. Individually demonstrate understanding, compete, or record a grade. Report out from smaller groups for instructor to share with the entire room. Individual and team assessments with ability to keep trying until they get the correct answer. Learning Benefits Backchannel behaviors already exist, live chat connects this behavior into the front channel of your session. Increases communication, decreases perceived risk of interruption. The Office of Teaching, Learning, & Technology provides Available Software for Faculty and Staff as well as Available Software for Students. Additional tech can be found within Cardinal Apps or from different departments across the community. Why is Hypothesis for social annotation not listed? Hypothesis is an incredible engagement tool that can be used during class, but it works best asynchronously. Learners need time to consume the information and post their annotations. The instructor must refresh the screen to see ongoing participation, it does not update automatically like collaborative tools. Internet connection speed in the space can impact the user experience in large audiences.

Apps to Trim Videos and Recordings
Trimming a video involves editing or removing the beginning or end of the clip. This is especially useful for video recordings that have dead space at the start or end, such as recorded MS Teams meetings. Trimming is also one of the first steps in learning basic video editing. This guide covers several options for trimming video: Universal Solutions for both Windows and macOS macOS Solutions Windows Solutions Universal Solutions Microsoft Stream Any video stored in OneDrive or SharePoint plays in Microsoft Stream and can be easily trimmed up to 10 times. This is the most convenient method for trimming meeting recordings, lectures, and casual video content. Learn how to trim videos in Microsoft Stream. Camtasia Camtasia is a video editing and screen recording tool that is available for free download on macOS and Windows for all UIW faculty and staff. Educators build the program, and it has a user-friendly interface that allows users to easily import video and audio content, trim videos, and export them to upload to Microsoft Stream and other platforms. Camtasia is a great tool for creating professional-looking videos and recordings. How to trim a video quickly with Camtasia. Don't have Camtasia installed? Download Camtasia for macOS or Camtasia for Windows Note: Visit TechSmith's site for Camtasia Tutorials or contact a Software Specialist for one-on-one assistance. PowerPoint Surprisingly, you can trim videos within PowerPoint and then export them to be uploaded elsewhere to Stream or other platforms. Learn how to Trim a video, music clip, or sound clip in PowerPoint for both Windows and macOS. Note: PowerPoint is installed on all UIW devices issued to faculty/staff. EchoVideo for Health Professions Schools EchoVideo is a service from Echo360 that integrates personal and classroom video capture, student engagement tools, and analytic tools to maximize student participation and engagement for both campus-based and online courses. HPS instructors can use it to edit and trim entire videos after uploading content to their library. EchoVideo: Learn about Trimming and Splitting Videos. macOS Solutions QuickTime All macOS devices have QuickTime, a default video player, built-in and it is the default video player for Macs. Learn how to trim a video in QuickTime. iMovie Mac users can use iMovie to trim video content, which comes pre-installed with macOS. If iMovie isn't installed or you are having trouble finding the application, you can download it for free from the Apple App Store. Once content is imported, it can be edited or trimmed. Trim clips in iMovie on Mac Windows Solutions Microsoft Photos App If you own a Windows PC, you can use the built-in Windows Photo app to edit and trim videos. This app is typically the default application for opening photos and videos in Windows. Learn how to trim and export content within the Photos app, and then upload it to either OneDrive or Microsoft Stream.
